My Immortal and I believe that the most important elements in Trance development are the frequent practice of meditation and the culturing of a close bond between Medium & Spirit Guide.

Connecting to your guide at a closer level;

The roots of Trance are stillness and meditation. Unless you can culture stillness your guide will be unable to connect to your energy and work through you. You need to become a clear channel allowing their personality & information to flow through you freely and accurately. This can only happen if you are open and still, remember; Trust & Allow.

At our workshops we always insist on a high level of evidence. Your guide, as a separate, real person should be able to answer questions about themselves, their name, history etc. If you find that they can't it is more than likely that your own mind is getting in the way. *Monkey Mind Versus Zen Mind*. This is why we advocate the regular practice of meditation.

When we got together we practiced every day for 18 months for at least 2 hours a day. We set aside a set time and practiced with total dedication. (If something's worth having it's GOT to be worked hard for).

I also think that it is acceptable to ask your guide for evidence that they are genuine and of the light. In the Bible John says, " Test your Spirits to see if they are of God." He also gives advice on how to do it.

 I really feel that before setting out on a contract with your Spirit Guide to work at this most intimate level the medium has every right to make sure their other half is for real. There's a very thin line between Trance and Possession, safety must be a priority. It's your mental health and well being at stake if it goes wrong.

It has been said to me by other teachers that it's impolite to put your guide under pressure. I disagree. They are going to become a major part of your life, they owe it to you to cross the Ts and dot the Is so that both parties feel secure. It also creates a strong foundation of trust if your Guide has given proof that the two of you are able to deliver information accurately. Long term it will bring confidence when working a venue with a live audience or giving a private reading.

I believe that it is essential to work with integrity. It is the responsibility of every medium and their familiar to only  give messages that are pure and accurate. I have seem all too many lives throughly messed up by sub standard mediums delivering misinterpreted messages or worse still, making statements based on their own judgements or opinions and giving them under the guise of a message from spirit.

There are SO many amazing Spirit Guides with words of wisdom and endless talents just waiting for an opportunity to share them with the world, all they need is a voice. Will you lend yours?

Breathing practice for Trance

Many people have trouble meditating because their mind wanders, I used to have the same problem. The following exercise is very simple but helps you achieve focus and in time teaches you to relax and allow making it easier for your spirit guides and helpers to connect to you, here's how you do it.

Find some sacred space, that's quiet time when you and your guide wont be disturbed. Put on some gentle music if you want and light some incense.
Sit back in a comfy arm chair or lay on your bed and close your eyes.
Tense and relax all the muscles in your body starting from your feet and working upwards. Now invite your Guide in close to connect with you, experience and recognise their energy signature. Relax.
Now start to count your breaths from one to ten at the fullest part of your inhalation. Carry on like this for as long as feels right and if you find your mind wandering then don't' worry, just return to the counting and keep focusing in the rhythm of your breathing.
After a while change the counting to the gaps in-between the breaths, at the point of when your lungs are most empty. Again count from one to ten over and over as your lungs empty, focus on that. You may find that with this your breathing pattern may alter, that's all good.
Last of all just stop counting and relax, observe your breathing pattern passively and listen to the beat of your heart. If you get distracted just reconnect and start again.
This is the exercise that I did to prepare my body for working with Richard. Some times you might fall asleep or you may lose time in big chunks (it may feel like you meditated for half an hour but will have been much longer). Eventually you may in the last stage feel as if you are dropping in a lift, if this happens just relax and allow. The next stage will be as if you are existing just as energy in a peaceful space, somewhere in the universe, that's how it is for me when Rich is working through me. Brilliant.
